Fairport High School’s Drama Club presents Fiddler on the Roof, March 14-16 at the Fairport High School auditorium. Tickets are $8 and are available at Wegmans in advance, or 30 minutes prior to the start of the show at the door. Senior citizens 65 and older may attend the Saturday 2:00 p.m.
Nine Fairport teams advance to State Odyssey of the Mind Tournament March 23
Nine (9) Odyssey of the Mind teams will represent Fairport at the New York State Finals Tournament on March 23 in Binghamton, N.Y. Fairport CSD hosted the Greater Rochester Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament on March 2.

Fairport’s NASA HUNCH students present projects for mid-year review to NASA reps
Students in the High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware (HUNCH) program at Fairport High School (FHS) completed a mid-year review of their projects on February 27. The process determines which projects will be selected to attend the final review at Johnson Space Center in Houston this upcoming spring.

Online safety for children
Local and national news have been covering a social media concern that is alarming to parents and could be harmful to students. This recent increase in online safety concerns is an appropriate time to revisit students’ online behaviors in school and at home.
The challenge that is surfacing involves a fictitious video character that allegedly challenges viewers to contact them via private message and then perform acts to avoid being “cursed.” These acts are said to include self-harm and extreme actions such as suicide.
Northside students produce morning show segment for Black History Month
Throughout the month of February, Northside students have directed a series of iMovie trailers for the Northside Morning Show called “Heroes Sharing Heroes.” The segment is in honor of Black History Month.

Fairport CSD closed Feb. 25

Community budget meeting to be held March 7
Fairport community members have opportunities to provide input on the upcoming 2019-20 budget development process. Residents are encouraged to attend the the Community Group Budget Meeting on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. at Martha Brown Middle School.

Dear Fairport Families and Community:
As we head into February recess, true to form, there are so many meaningful events occurring in all of our schools.
Planning for the 2019-20 school budget is underway. In December, the Board of Education adopted the following budget goals:
- Allocate financial and human resources to support
- Instructionally and developmentally appropriate class sizes
- Mental Health and other unique learning needs of students
- Variety of ways to engage students in our schools
- Curriculum management related to educational programming priorities
- Maintenance of aging facilities to support 21st-century learning
- Allocate up to 1 percent of our annual budget on identified needs via the Building Condition Survey
- Continue to identify and employ cost containment measures to manage expenditures
- Review the use of all reserves and establish prudent “floors” for reserves to support district sustainability

Northside students collaborate on penguin STEM project
Northside School third-graders in Michelle Laughrey’s class could barely contain their excitement as they worked on their penguin projects using Google Slides with a little help from a class of friendly fifth-graders.
This project allowed students to dive into a science project while honing their reading and research skills.
