U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) presented 51 citizenship candidates originating from 24 countries to the New York Supreme Court at a ceremony at the Minerva DeLand School on April 25. Brooks Hill fifth-grade classes sponsored the event. Students participated in the event, performing in the chorus and reading essays about citizenship.
Board of Education adopts 2019-20 budget; budget hearing May 7 & vote scheduled for May 21
The Fairport Central School District Board of Education voted to adopt the 2019-20 school budget at the April 23 Board of Education meeting at Fairport High School.
Budget highlights include:
- The $132,199,783 total budget is a 2.47% increase over the prior year’s budget
- The budget is in compliance with the Property Tax Cap
- The estimated tax rate is a projected $22.77,
Douglas W. Lauf named next assistant superintendent for Human Resources
At the Regular Board of Education meeting on April 23, the Board appointed Douglas W. Lauf to serve as assistant superintendent for human resources beginning July 1, 2019. Lauf will succeed Michael Crumb, who has been serving as the acting assistant superintendent for human resources since January. The search process included invaluable feedback by an interview committee and focus groups.
Fairport High School announces valedictorian, salutatorian for the Class of 2019
Fairport High School Principal Robert Clark is pleased to announce Benjamin Caplan as the valedictorian and Alicia Loui as the salutatorian of the Class of 2019. Each will speak at the Class of 2019 Commencement Ceremony on June 27, 2019 at 7 p.m. at the Blue Cross Arena.

As part of the strategic initiatives developed by last year’s District Advisory Council, the Fairport Central School District Board of Education and district leaders have been studying the future of the district, including facilities planning and a possible merger of Minerva DeLand (MD) and Fairport High School (FHS).
FHS teams compete in Cornell University High School Computer Programming Contest
Four teams representing 12 students from Fairport High School competed against teams from across New York state in the 6th annual Cornell University High School Computer Programming Contest on April 5.

FHS students participate in ROC2Change Student Summit on Race
Eleven Fairport High School students participated in the 8th ROC2Change Student Summit on Race with other Monroe County students on Friday, March 29 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. More than 500 students from 35 local high schools gathered to listen, learn and lead on Decoding and Dismantling Structural Racism.
April 1 Board Workshop location change
There has been a location change for the Monday, April 1 Board Workshop. The workshop will be held in Fairport High School Room 512. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m.
Facilities planning meetings held to discuss potential capital projects, possible merger
Fairport Central School District held staff and community facilities planning meetings on March 25 and 26. These meetings focused on the progress of the strategic initiatives, facilities work suggested by the Building Condition Survey (BCS) and two possible capital project phases that could potentially go to vote in 2019 and 2022.
