Synthesis Essay
BASICS:
OVERVIEW OF RUBRIC:
Complex View with My Own Perspective... not a bland overview and not a summary
What is the WHY? Read the Prompt and determine why this is an important issue
Read through provided sources and determine ...FOR >>>>AGAINST>>>NEUTRAL>>>>INFO
If you don't understand a source.... skip it!!! Does not match your thoughts, skip or save for counter arguement!!!
ANNNNNNNOOOOOTATE!!!! What will be your evidence???
Commentary .....provide strong verbs ....own words
Quotes and evidence should be short and supportive.....commentary should be more extensive
Thesis: Assert Position... based on the readings.... not a personal revolt. Innitially this may be a question.
Your papargraphs should be a conversation of sources try to use evidence from 2 sources for each paragraph (subtopic)
para 1 conversation of sources.... more thoughts and commentary...explain evidence... connect back
para 2 conversation of sources.... more thoughts and commentary.... explain evidence... connect back
para 3....counter....rebuttal/concession/refute
Conclusion... repeat a similar ar more advanced thesis... not again but better.....most important point for last!!!
Make sure you include internal Citations:
- Choose one and stay ( Source A). Or (Author provided)
- According to the author,".........".

devices/choices + Subjects=authors purpose
HOW TO:
Take notes as you read the text the first time....annnotate and read closely
Read the Text and Outline on your actual paper.....Remember this is a rough draft. Doing this will show a line of reasoning if you happen to run out of time.
Look for rhetorical choices: repition of words and phrases, sentence structure, figures of speech, appeals to: ethos, pathos and logos.... HOW DOES THIS ESTABLISH PURPOSE!!!!
