eBook LibGuide
Electronic books, or eBooks, are books that are read on a computer, e-reader, or other electronic device. They are a great way to practice reading!
This LibGuide provides different ways to access free eBooks! If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Cuthbertson.
Totally Free Resources
Unite for Literacy provides free digital access to picture books, narrated in many languages. There is a nonfiction focus but do not have reading levels provided.
Wilbooks Publishing provides free access to eBooks but does not include narration. There is a mix of fiction and nonfiction and books are leveled, but you must click through the book to find the level on the last page. The eBooks are sorted by approximate grade level.
Epic! for Educators is a free eBook website for teachers. Teachers may create a login, add students to their class, assign eBooks and create quizzes. Students can login via a Classroom Code here. There is a mix of nonfiction and fiction but they are not leveled for guided reading (lexile levels are provided). The eBooks are read aloud and Epic! includes videos.
Available with a School Login
BookFlix is a subscription site that pairs fiction eBooks with nonfiction eBooks. The fictional eBooks are formatted as videos and the nonfiction eBook offers a "read along" function. Unsure of the login? Check with you child's teacher or Mrs. Cuthbertson.
Lightbox books are eBooks with physical companions in our Media Center. The books are integrated with videos and links to web resources, as well as offering a read-aloud option. Lightbox books are nonfiction focused and are not leveled. On Destiny Discover, scroll down to Lightbox and select "See all 90." Once you've chosen a title, click "open" and you will be prompted to login using the same login as for the computer or Clever. Unsure of this login? Check with your child's teacher or Mrs. Cuthbertson.
Available with a Public Library Card
TumbleBooks is a library of read alouds, videos and eBooks available with a Cabarrus or Mecklenburg County Public Library card (adult or student). There are fiction and nonfiction selections, from picture books through young adult.
Check out eBooks and AudioBooks using your public library card. Read and listen on the go with Libby, their mobile app! eBooks and AudioBooks can be sorted by interest level, lexile level, or "text difficulty" (approximate grade level). Titles available for checkout are only fiction.
