The Elements of the IB PYP
-
Key Concepts are big ideas which enable students to make connections across subject areas, inside and outside of the classroom.
Knowledge includes six international themes which organize our school's programme of inquiry. Each grade level has developed six units of inquiry, one for each transdisciplinary theme.
Approaches to Learning, formally called Transdisciplinary Skills, are purposefully planned for through learning experiences which enable students to develop these necessary skills.
Approaches to Teaching include a focus on inquiry-based learning, conceptual understanding, collaboration, differentiation, and informed by on-going assessment.
Action is the ultimate goal of all IB programmes. It includes service to others and making a positive impact on the world.
Agency is support of students' voice, choice, and ownership of their learning.
Exhibition is the IB PYP exit project which is a culmination of their learning in their final 5th grade year. Students work in collaborative groups to research a global issue and take action.
