Recent District Initiatives

  • 1:1 Initiative:  Every student in the Bremerton School District has been assigned a Chromebook for home and school use. This “1:1” initiative is funded with the 2018 Technology Levy and a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) grant.  Students are also learning about good “Digital Citizenship” in all grades.  Learn more at www.BremertonSchools.org/Technology.

Jumpstart for Kindergarten: As a part of our community-wide plan to increase kindergarten readiness, we are offering a new tuition-free preschool program called Jumpstart to Kindergarten.  The program, held at View Ridge Elementary Arts Academy and Crownhill Elementary, is open to any child residing in our District who will enter kindergarten in our District the following year.  Learn more at www.BremertonSchools.org/Jumpstart.

AVID Schoolwide:  AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The mission of the AVID organization is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. We’ve offered the AVID elective in our District at Bremerton High School and Mountain View Middle Schools for many years - and those programs will continue. But AVID best practices are now utilized in all grade levels at all schools. We are committed to all students having access to and success with engaging, rigorous, and student-centered learning environments.  We want all students to develop critical thinking, literacy, and math skills using AVID’s research-based strategies and curriculum.

Raptor visitor management system: As a part of the District’s efforts to improve school safety and security, we have implemented a new visitor management system in all of our schools called Raptor. Visitors will be required to show a valid, government-issued ID when visiting our schools if they wish to go past the main office.  We have also added security fencing and remodeled our schools to create a single point of entry for all visitiors. Learn more at www.BremertonSchools.org/Raptor

School-based health clinics: As featured in the Kitsap Sun, Peninsula Community Health Services is operating a school-based health clinic on our Mountain View Middle School and Bremerton High School campuses. The clinic provides medical, mental health and chemical dependency services for all students and staff in our District. We hope this on-site clinic will make it easier for students to get the healthcare they need. We’ll be sending out more information on this clinic in the very near future.  Learn more at www.BremertonSchools.org/Clinic

"We are Kindergarten Ready" learning series:  We want to support parents in preparing their students for kindergarten. "We are Kindergarten Ready" learning series includes physical learning materials and videos that parents can use to help their child get "kindergarten-ready!" The program provides parents ideas for incorporating strategies and practices into their routines to build foundational readiness in literacy, math, and social (SEL) skills.
