READ, READ, and READ some more!
The FAB 5 students began their Friday in the elementary gym with Coach Fitz - not to shoot hoops or play dodge ball, but to discuss the importance of reading. Coach Fitz is an avid reader. (The included photos show only a fraction of his personal library.) Coach shared his personal experiences with reading - how and why he chooses a book, when he abandons a book, and how reading impacts his life. He shared a variety of books and a few of his favorite books. He shared his "Someday List" - a lengthy list of books that he plans to read someday. He also shared his reading goal for the year which is to read 40 books, and he is well on his way to achieving his goal.
From this experience our FAB 5 students learned many things:
1. Reading promotes success.
2. Whatever your interest, there is book that matches it. You only have to look for the book.
3. Goal setting increases achievement.
4. It is okay not to finish a book. It is not okay to quit reading.
Thank you, Coach Fitz, for the inspiration.
We began our Friday with reading, and we ended our day with reading. The beautiful weather provided the perfect backdrop to lose oneself in a book. We will continue to develop our love for reading as we READ, READ, and READ some more!
