Building a Sleigh Challenge
Students completed a sleigh building challenge before beginning Christmas Vacation. Each group was given 2 candy canes, a small piece of paper, two feet of tape, and 6 inches of string. Using only those materials, students were challenged a build a sleigh that could hold and carry the most cargo. These pictures show students building and testing the sleighs. For the most part, students used the same design and most were able to "guide" their sleighs from one end of the table to the other end. However, ALL of the sleighs had one major design flaw. None of the sleighs would hold presents when going uphill! We did not attempt to fly the sleigh, but we decided that most of the sleighs would not hold up against the high altitude, turbulence, or magical time travel.
