Eleven Fairport High School students participated in the 8th ROC2Change Student Summit on Race with other Monroe County students on Friday, March 29 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. More than 500 students from 35 local high schools gathered to listen, learn and lead on Decoding and Dismantling Structural Racism.

The action-packed day started with African drumming and included breakout groups examining structural racism in fields of education, law, economics, housing, employments and others. Students shared out their plans to bring what they learned back to their districts to make change. The day wrapped up with student performances including Rosalie Santiago and Nya Garret reading their original poems.
Congratulations to junior Will Barrett who was honored with the Princeton Prize in Race Relations for his work with the Black Boys Be Kings Project to empower Black and Latino males in our community.
