Student artists and authors at Fairport High School are making up for lost time with the 2019-2021 edition of Dimensions, the school’s Art and Literary magazine. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented the magazine’s publication last school year, so this year’s edition contains pieces of visual art, poetry and prose from the 2019-20 and the 2020-21 school years.
Seeking Community Input on Federal Funds Use
As the District had previously communicated through the school budget process, over the next three years the Fairport Central School District will receive funding from the Federal Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act and the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act. These one-time funding streams will allow the District to provide necessary programs and services during this time when the District is moving out of the pandemic and more students are returning to in-person instruction.
Brooks Hill student’s story comes to life on the page
A Brooks Hill Elementary School student’s extraordinary life story spans years and crosses continents and oceans – and is now available as an illustrated book. Sahar Ghulami came to the United States from Afghanistan when she was six. The Brooks Hill student is now in fifth grade, and she’s ready to tell her story.
Updated Mask Policy in light of NYS guidance changes, June 7

As you may know, late Friday afternoon, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Commissioner of Health, Dr. Howard Zucker sent a letter to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) citing that the state plans to change masking guidance for schools.

Monroe County superintendents advocate to NYS for updated guidance – June 2021

The Monroe County superintendents have sent a new letter to the Governor urging New York State to provide updated, clear guidance on the following: Remote Learning, Social Distancing and Masking, Testing, Micrometrics/School Rates, Assurances/Procedures, Vaccination, Capacity, and Other Guidance and Considerations.
Code of Conduct – under 30-day review & accepting comments
The Fairport Central School District’s Code of Conduct is currently under a 30-day review. Comments may be sent to the District Clerk, Arielle LaBarbera, via email at alabarbera@fairport.org.
The Public Hearing for the Code of Conduct will take place at an August Board of Education session TBD.
Fairport High School Named Jostens 2021 National Yearbook Program of Excellence
The Fairport High School ‘Hourglass’ yearbook program has been awarded the Jostens 2021 National Yearbook Program of Excellence award. Fairport High School is the only local school to be recognized, and one of only ten schools in New York State to earn the honor.

Fairport students take honors in robotics competitions
Fairport’s grade 9-12 “Team 578 Red Raider Robotics” team was honored earlier this month for its creativity and innovation in a year that has presented tremendous challenges. The Robotics team is part of FIRST, an international organization that promotes technology and STEM education.
