To the Fairport Community:
Thanksgiving is upon us and we have much to be thankful for in Fairport. I am grateful for our passionate faculty and staff who discover ways to connect with our students, our dynamic and talented students who bring life to our schools, and for our caring families who support our schools in many ways!
Board of Education Student Representative Will Hughes said it best at the last Board of Education meeting: “Fairport is a great place of generous giving.” Fairport’s Make a Difference campaign is occurring in all of our schools and emblematic of our caring and supportive school community. These altruistic efforts support many causes including Golisano’s Children Hospital, CURE Childhood Cancer Association and Fairport High School’s Joey Fund.
On Thursday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 512 at the Fairport High School, we will be holding a Whole Child Community conversation. This forum will help the district define 21st-century learning in our schools and the impact students’ futures. Dr. Robert Dillon will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. He is an educational leader with a passion for cultivating engagement at all educational levels. We will also hear from many experts from a variety of fields. For a full list of speakers, click here. We hope to see you on Nov. 29 for this important conversation.
The Education Wall of Distinction Ceremony on Nov. 14 honored the work of Douglas Caine, Marci Callan, Christina Evans, William Keplinger, Richard Osterling and Christopher Stahl. The Educational Wall of Distinction is symbolic of the deeply rooted traditions of excellence layered throughout our community. These six individuals have made a lasting impact on the education process for one or more Fairport students. We admire their passion to connect with our students and serve our community with clarity and purpose.
As we begin developing the 2019-20 proposed budget, the district will continue to focus on the strategic initiatives and the Board of Education’s student-centered vision. Historically, the Governor’s Executive Budget is released in January. While it is difficult to predict what is included in the Executive Budget, we are hopeful for a less challenging budget season. The district will continue to discuss the budget development process in open meetings. Please stay tuned for more information.
Finally, I had the pleasure of attending the National Blue Ribbon School ceremony in Washington DC this month. Fairport High School is one of only 349 schools in the country who received this honor in 2018. The honor was bestowed upon the high school, but it is truly a recognition for all of our students and staff, as the ideals embedded in this recognition are deeply rooted in all of our schools.
I wish you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving. I am thankful to be a part of this caring community and look forward to the upcoming holiday season!
