Fairport Central School District

Six individuals will be inducted into the Fairport Education Wall of Distinction on Nov. 14. Douglas Caine, Marci Callan, Christina Evans, William Keplinger, Richard Osterling and Christopher Stahl will be honored for their impact at Fairport Central School District. The ceremony will take place at Fairport High School in Room 512 beginning at 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.

The Fairport Education Wall of Distinction recognizes educators who have had positive, lasting effects on the educational process of a student or group of students. Individuals are nominated and honorees are selected by the Education Wall of Distinction Selection Committee comprised of community members and school district personnel.

Douglas Caine plays an instrumental role in the Fairport transportation system, helping to coordinate bussing needs for students with unique circumstances. He has over 37 years in education and specialized in school bus safety and routing. Douglas goes above and beyond while working behind the scenes to assure students’ needs are met.

Marci Callan has affected many students throughout her Fairport coaching career, having completed 36 seasons at the helm of the varsity and junior varsity swimming program. She also serves as the co-coach of the modified swimming program. Marci has found passion in teaching all students to swim, as she considers it a life skill and volunteers her time to teach new students the ways of the water.

Christina “Tina” Evans serves as a role model for some of Fairport’s youngest students, having taught second grade at Dudley Elementary School for the past 18 years. She knows the importance of organization and preparation for effective, engaging lessons and often involves parents. Tina has a sincere interest in her students and her energy and enthusiasm create a caring and nurturing learning environment.

William Keplinger wore many hats throughout his 33 years at Fairport. He served high school students as an English teacher, guidance counselor and theater director and class advisor. Throughout Keplinger’s time, he saw the population grow from 100 to more than 600 graduating seniors. Bill continues to serve the community in his retirement as a volunteer. He also enjoys traveling with his wife, Jean.

Richard Osterling has been teaching music for over 35 years at Fairport and conducts the fourth-grade and high school orchestras. His outgoing demeanor allows him to connect with and instruct his students. Richard instills confidence in his students and educates them beyond the world of music. He is well-respected throughout the district for his dedication and ability to instill a love of music in his students.

Christopher Stahl is the epitome of a dedicated teacher with high standards, boundless energy and a big heart for both his students and fellow educators. He always has a smile on his face and models integrity, service to others and the power of hard work. Best known for his automotive classes, Chris provides an authentic learning environment where students can creatively think and problem solve.
