Singing Opportunities

All chorus students are encouraged to participate in any opportunities that they can to be more involved with chorus. Many of these events help in boosting confidence, adopting time management skills, learning how to prioritize, and much more. Below are events that 7th & 8th Grade Year-Long Chorus members are eligible for. DATES WILL BE ADDED WHEN THEY ARE DETERMINED.

The combined 7th and 8th Grade Year-Long Ensemble will participate in the annual Carowinds Festival of Music. Members of the ensemble and chaperones will be responsible for purchasing their own ticket or providing proof of their season pass through the Choral Arts Department.
Please make checks payable to J.N. Fries Middle School and write Chorus - Carowinds on the memo line. PAYMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AT THE GATE.

As a means of providing a challenge, students who are interested may audition at the state-level for the NC Middle School Honors Chorus. Students will prepare a section of a selected piece, as well as practice sight-reading.
On the day of the audition, the student(s) will sing the piece and sight-read for a judge to determine acceptance or denial into the state ensemble. If accepted, the singer(s) will participate in the state choir on the first Sunday of November in Winston-Salem, NC.

Every year, CCS middle schools host an All-County Chorus choir, that is comprised of the county's finest middle school singers.
Students who are interested will audition to participate in this event, with Mr. Cornelius.

The North Carolina chapter of American Choral Director's Association hosts an event that is specifically catered to middle school choral programs. Similar to CCS All-County, students will travel to a centralized location within NC and participate in a two-day choral festival, where they will participate in a workshop with one of the country's finest choral conductors.
Students and families who choose to participate should anticipate paying a fee to aid in covering sheet music, travel accommodations, and transportation.

AVAILABLE TO SECOND SEMESTER STUDENTS ONLY
In February & March, the Choral Arts Department will travel to local venues to participate in the state's annual adjudication. Students enrolled in year-long ensembles will combine to create a mass ensemble that will perform for three judges and receive a score. In addition, students will also sight-read for a separate score.
Students and families who participate should anticipate paying a fee to aid in covering registration fees and transportation.
