Bachelor of Music Education (Wingate University) Certified Apple Teacher

Mr. Isaiah Cornelius

Hello Knights!

Welcome to the J.N. Fries STEM Middle School Choral Arts Department.

About Me

My name is Isaiah Cornelius, and I'm your director! I'm so excited about joining the JNFMS team and getting the opportunity to work with our young singers. I graduated from Wingate University six years ago with a degree in K-12 Vocal Music Education. The first three years of my career were spent with Gaston County Schools, where I taught at W.C. Friday Middle School. In 2020, I moved back to Rowan County (where I'm originally from) and taught at East Rowan High School for two years. Out of the four years of my teaching career that we were able to participate in festivals and adjudications, my students and ensembles consistently received high marks. Students have participated in NC Honors Chorus, NC ACDA MiddleFest, NC All-State, and more events. HOWEVER, I always emphasize that the goal of my teaching is not to have the world's best singers -- but rather to have some of the world's best young people.

In my free time, you can probably find me in Target or Marshalls/T.J. Maxx or at home with my Oscar (my dog) and Butter (my bearded dragon).

About Chorus

While in my class, I will work with students to learn more about musicianship, ensemble-work, team work, and self-efficacy; while everyone may not claim to be a musician, everyone is a human-being. For more information on the NC Music Standards that will be taught, please click here.

Students enrolled in 6th Grade Chorus are considered "semester-long" students and are encouraged to use the semester to determine if Chorus is a considerable option for their upcoming years at JNFMS. These students will combine and perform as an ensemble.

Students enrolled in 7th and 8th Grade Chorus are offered the option of a semester-long course or a year-long course. This year, students participating in year-long classes will perform as an ensemble, where students participating in semester-long classes will perform as an ensemble.
