Putnam County Ag Students Qualify for State Competition
After several weeks of preparation and five practice contests, the agricultural contest teams headed to the Northeast District Contest in Columbia, Missouri on April 10, 2019. A total of 9 teams competed consisting of 33 Putnam County students. When contests were over, the results were posted and five teams qualified for state competition. These teams also competed at the state contest in Columbia on April 25-26, 2019. Agriculture contest areas are based on classroom curriculum and give students an opportunity to learn more in-depth specific knowledge about various agriculture contest areas. The northeast district is comprised of 60 schools.
The following is a list of the teams that competed, their rankings, and their respective team members:
Dairy Foods placed 1st overall and qualified for the state contest. The team consisted of Jaylen W, Whitney R, Hannah M, and Guin A.
The Agronomy team members were Emily D, Dalton D, and Faith S. The team placed 12th at districts and qualified for the state contest.
This year’s forestry team consisted of Tony B, Gavin M, Aaron P, and Richard R. They competed at the district level where they placed 6th and qualified for the state contest.
This year’s Dairy Cattle Evaluation team members were Ashley K, Kora B, and Sofia V. The team placed 5th at district contest and qualified for the state contest.
This year’s livestock team was Mason P, Jordan M, Kaylynn H, and Lainie C. They competed at districts and placed 4th which qualified them for the state contest.
This year’s poultry team was Taffi T, Hayden H, and Jorge L. The team placed 13th at districts.
Meats placed 16th overall. The team consisted of Justin W, Maggi F, Carsen S, and Grant M.
Horse Judging team placed 14th overall. The team consisted of Kaitlyn R, Tori G, and Shelby H.
This year’s soil team placed 12th at districts. This year’s team was Torqe B, Cole R, and Aaron S.
