Poet Project – Tehan

Project Description:

For this project you will work with a partner to research a classical or contemporary American poet and prepare a 4-5 minute presentation for the class.

You may choose to create a PowerPoint presentation (minimum 5-6 slides) or handout to present the information to the class. Your presentation must include the following:

  • a brief biography of the poet (including picture and key information about the poet’s life)
  • a description of any common themes in his/her poetry
  • one of the poet’s best-known poems (be sure to explain your interpretation of the poem’s meaning and point out the poetic devices used by the poet)

You will need to consult three sources for this project. You must include a “Works Cited” on either your PowerPoint slide or handout using proper MLA format.

Quick Reference Guide:

      • Log into Easybib through Fairport Apps mail
      • Click “More” in the dropdown menu and select “Easybib”
      • Select “New project”
      • Name your project
      • Keep MLA as default style
      • Click “Create”
      • Select “Bibliography” under project title
      • Notice source tabs
      • Select tab corresponding to your source type
      • Cite your sources
      • When all sources have been inputted, create your Works Cited list by selecting “Export,” then “Print as a word document,” then “Download for MS Word”

      Hints:·   To cite a website, copy and paste the website url

    • ·   To cite a database, do not copy and paste database url; select correct database type and input required info.
    • ·   To cite a book, use the ISBN # (found on back of book) instead of book title
    • Ask your librarian if you need help

You will be graded on your preparedness, public speaking skills, and your knowledge of the poet and poem.
