Mental Health Resources
Overview
-
Health and wellness (physical and mental) are important considerations in students' ability to learn. Mental health is something we all have; it exists on a continuum. Ideally, we function from a place of wellness most of the time. The reality is that we all feel unwell sometimes. Perhaps we get a cold or maybe we have a more chronic physical condition that impacts our health but doesn't limit or define us (ex. allergies). Unfortunately, not all bouts of illness can be measured with a thermometer or lab test. Sometimes we need support for our mental or emotional health. It's okay to ask for help when we don't feel well (physically, emotionally, socially), and we can feel better with proper interventions and supports.
The Cox Mill High School S3 Team has developed this webpage to provide resources and information to students and families seeking help related to mental health and wellness. If you have ideas or resources you would like to share, please see your school counselor or email Chelsea Wheeler, school social worker, at chelsea.wheeler@cabarrus.k12.nc.us
Are you in crisis?
-
If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, please immediately reach out to a caring adult for support. Friends are great supporters, but they may not have the resources or training to assist in a crisis. If you are in school, come to the S3 Office or talk with a trusted teacher, coach, administrator or support staff member (bring a friend for support if you are afraid). If you are not in school, here are some options to consider (list below). The most important thing is that you reach out for help. The person you initially contact may be your bridge to other resources that can change things for the better.
Caring adults who can assist you with connecting to help AT school:
- Teacher*
- Coach*
- School Counselor
- School Social Worker
- School Psychologist
- School Nurse
- Administrator*
- Support Staff* (office staff, custodians, etc.)
*These staff members cannot provide mental health services, but they are wonderful, caring people who can help you connect with our S3 staff.
Caring adults who may be able to help you OUTSIDE of school:
- Parents or other Family Members
- Friend's Mom or Dad
- Trusted Neighbor
- Physician or Medical Professional
- Therapist
- Law Enforcement
- Clergy or Youth Leaders
- Call a Hotline
