Transfer Requests

Transfers fall into two categories; transfers from inside our district (intra-district) or transfers from outside our district (inter-district).
INTRA-DISTRICT (FROM INSIDE DISTRICT)

2023 - 2024
- Intra-District Transfers only apply to students who live within the Alvord Unified School District attendance boundaries. If you live outside the Alvord Unified School District, you must apply for an Inter-District Transfer from your resident district.
- Requests for placement will not be made on a first-come, first-served basis; instead will be approved using an unbiased random selection process and only if space is available at the school requested.
- The Intra-District Transfer Window for 2023-2024 for Grades TK - 5 was open from 2/13/2023 to 3/24/2023. The window is now closed.

Intra-District Open Enrollment Transfer Application Process and Timeline
Intra-District Transfers only apply to students who live within the Alvord Unified School District attendance boundaries. Requests for placement will not be done on a first-come, first-serve basis, instead will be approved using an unbiased random selection process and only if space is available at the school requested.
If you live outside of the Alvord Unified School District, you will need to apply for an Inter-District Transfer from your resident district.
Please complete one application per student. Information on how to submit your transfer request will be posted in January.
- Once the application is approved, the choice school will become your school of residence throughout the level:
- K-5
- 6-8
- 9-12
- The district is unable to hold a space for your child at more than one school
- No waitlists will be established

Intra-District Open Enrollment Transfer FAQ
Q) When does the Intra-District transfer window open?
A) Application dates for:
- Grades 6 - 12 January 16, 2023 - February 17, 2023
- Grades TK - 5 February 13, 2023 - March 24, 2023
Q) How and when will I find out if the transfer was approved?
A) Notifications will be sent to the email listed on the transfer application starting the end of April/beginning of May with the approval or denial decision.

Q) Will late applications be accepted?
A) Unfortunately, no.
Q) Can I request more than one school choice on the application?
A) No, only one school choice per student will be accepted.
Q) If the transfer is denied, is there an appeal process?
A) No, all decisions are final.
Q) What if I already have a student attending the school I am requesting?
A) Every attempt will be made to place siblings at the same school within the capacity limitations of that grade at that school.
Q) How are decisions made?
A) Requests for placement will not be done on a first-come, first-serve basis; instead, placement will be decided using an unbiased random selection process and only if space is available at the requested school.
Q) If the request school is full, can you hold my application until there is an opening?
A) No, there are no waitlists.
Q) Do I need to renew the transfer annually?
A) If you live within the Alvord Unified School District attendance area, no. Once the application has been approved, that school will become your school of residence throughout that school level: TK-5, 6-8, 9-12
Q) Can the transfer be revoked resulting in my child returning to their original school of residence?
A) Yes, an INTRA-District transfer may be denied or revoked at any time for any of the following reasons:
- Student is excessively tardy/absent from school, or student is brought to school excessively early/picked-up excessively late
- Student fails to uphold appropriate behavior standards
- Student fails to make appropriate academic efforts
- False or misleading information was provided on the transfer application
- Reason for the original issuance of the transfer application is no longer valid
- Other conditions that occur that would render continuance inadvisable

- The Inter-District transfer process applies to parents requesting their children attend school in a district other than their resident district.
- All Inter-District requests must be initiated in the district of residence.
- Inter-District transfers are valid for one year only and must be renewed annually.
- An approved Inter-District transfer must be authorized between the district of residence and the school district of desired attendance before a student can attend the selected school.
*Students who are brand new and are requesting a transfer for the first time to Alvord Unified School District must complete online registration BEFORE an Inter-District transfer request can be submitted. The link for online registration can be found on the Student Services department home page. Online registration will open on December 2, 2022.
- Please be advised you must provide documentation to support the reason for the requested transfer.
- Supporting documents for the request to transfer must be submitted with the application.

Process and Timeline
- The Inter-District transfer process applies to those parents who are requesting their children attend school in a district other than their resident district.
- All Inter-District requests must be initiated in the district of residence.
- Inter-District transfers are valid for one year only and must be renewed annually.

- Required Child Care Documentation: For students whose child care needs are provided within the attendance boundaries of the receiving school district. Provide a letter from the child care provider verifying the provider's

- For parents/legal guardians who work within the attendance boundaries of the receiving district, please provide a copy of a recent pay stub or letter from employer indicating all of the following:
- Job title and/or description of work
- Hours and days of employment per week
- Work location on district letterhead
- For parents/legal guardians who work within the attendance boundaries of the receiving district, please provide a copy of a recent pay stub or letter from employer indicating all of the following:
- Required Documentation for Change of Residence:
- Provide proof of pending new residence (i.e., escrow papers, rental agreement)
- Required Documentation for Specialized High School Program:
- For students with a valid interest in a particular educational program not offered in the district of residence, please provide information regarding the program and a letter of acceptance into the program
- Required Documentation for Continuing Enrollment for a Senior Student:
- For students who would like to remain with their graduating class for elementary, middle or high school, please provide proof of current enrollment in the receiving district
- Required Child Care Documentation: For students whose child care needs are provided within the attendance boundaries of the receiving school district. Provide a letter from the child care provider verifying the provider's

Inter-District FAQ
Q) When does the transfer window open?
A) The INTER-District transfer window opens on December 2, 2022 and closes on January 13, 2023.
Q) I am a new student and requesting a transfer into Alvord Unified School District for the first time. What do I need to do?
A) You will need to complete online registration BEFORE we can accept your Inter-District transfer request. Please use the online registration link which is located on the Student Services department home page.
Q) My home address does not fall within the Alvord Unified School District boundaries. What address do I use to complete online registration?
A) Under home address, please enter the address of the desired AUSD school you will be requesting the Inter-District transfer to.
Please note, using the school's address does not guarantee that your Inter-District transfer application will be approved and/or approved for that school.
Q) How do I turn in my completed transfer request?
A) Applications may be turned in one of two ways:
1) Email a copy of the completed, signed application (front and back) and required documentation to: StudentServices@alvordschools.org

A) Unfortunately, no. Transfer requests must be submitted via StudentServices@alvordschools.org or via U.S. mail.
Q) How and when will I find out if the transfer was approved?
A) Notifications will be sent to the email listed on the transfer application starting the end of April/beginning of May with the approval or denial decision.
Q) Are California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) athletic eligibility rules waived if my child transfers to another high school?
A) No. All students and schools are subject to all CIF athletic eligibility rules and regulations. Approved transfers should not be understood to mean that any CIF rules or regulations have been waived.
Q) Can I appeal my denied INTER-District transfer request?
A) If you wish to appeal this decision, you may submit a written explanation within 14 days of the date of the denial letter stating the reason you are appealing. Your appeal will be reviewed by the Director of Student Services and you will be notified, in writing, of the outcome within 10 calendar days following the review of your review.
Q) Do I need to renew the transfer annually?
A) Yes, you will need to renew your transfer permit annually.
Q) Can the transfer be revoked resulting in my child returning to their district of residence?
A) Yes, an INTER-District transfer may be denied or revoked at any time for the following reasons:
