Supporting our teacher created Units of Study is a priority here in Teaching, Learning, and Professional Development (TLPD). From collaborative lesson planning to co-teaching classroom lessons, there are a variety of ways TLPD can help make our Units of Study come alive in your Science classroom.
DISCIPLINARY LITERACY
Alvord Unified has adopted two priorities: Literacy and Equity. I can show you how to easily integrate writing in your Science classroom. There are plenty of opportunities to apply literacy skills in our Units of Study. TLPD can provide support in the form of materials or demonstration lessons from Step Up To Writing to Reading and Writing in Science and Technical subjects. We are here to meet your needs.
CONTENT AREA KNOWLEDGE BASE
TLPD can provide content area expertise in both life and physical sciences. If you need a quick refresher on DNA replication or LeChatelier's Principle, please contact us. We can also provide support on the shifts that have come with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION
In this time of technology overload, it is important to choose the right tool for the job. Whether it is for presenting material or student collaboration, TLPD can help you incorporate technology in an instructionally effective manner. Selecting technology for a Science classroom can be daunting, but we are here to help.
ASSESSMENT LITERACY
Formative assessment, Summative assessment, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium tests, Unit of Study Assessments...there are many changes that have come with Common Core and NGSS. TLPD can provide support on each of these areas specific to Science. EADMS support in Item Writing for Teacher Created Assessments or Classroom Online Testing is also available.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Classroom management is a very nuanced subject. It is important to tailor techniques and strategies to the individual's taste and temperament. Being in a laboratory setting and conducting demonstrations, investigations and experiments adds another layer of complexity to the Science classroom. TLPD can provide support specific to your classroom or laboratory needs.
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
With all the shifts in Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, it is imperative that students are active learners in class. NGSS has a focus on Three Dimensional learning that engages students in Science and Engineering Practices, Cross-cutting Concepts and Disciplinary Core Ideas. We can provide classroom support and professional development on making this shift.
