  • Sentido de los números/Number Sense


    Tener una sólida comprensión de nuestro sistema de números es importante para aprender a trabajar con números. En primer grado, los estudiantes aprenden a descomponer números, lo que significa que los estudiantes aprenden a separar los números en partes. Esta es una estrategia importante para sumar y restar de manera eficiente. Comenzamos con números dentro de 10 y luego pasamos a números dentro de 20 y finalmente a números más grandes. Saber como trabajar con los números 5 y 10 es importante ya que son números útiles. Los estudiantes también deben entender que los números se pueden separar en decenas y unidades. ¿Cómo puede apoyar este aprendizaje? Las siguientes son algunas sugerencias.

    • nombre un número y haga que tu hijo muestre el número rápidamente con sus dedos
    • escriba un número y haga que construya rápidamente el número con materiales de su hogar
    • escriba un número y haga que su hijo lo nombre
    • haga que su hijo cuente objetos en casa y los organice en grupos
    • haga que su hijo dibuje el valor de un número
    • haga que su hijo separe un número en decenas y unidades
    • use la tabla de 120 para que su hijo identifique números, muestre 10 más, 10 menos, 1 más y 1 menos

    Having a strong understanding of our number system is important in learning to work with numbers. In first grade students learn to decompose numbers, meaning that students learn how to separate numbers into parts. This is an important strategy in adding and subtracting efficiently. We begin with numbers within 10 and then move into numbers within 20 and finally larger numbers. Knowing how to work with the numbers 5 and 10 is important as they are helpful numbers. Students must also understand that numbers can be separated into tens and ones. How can you support this learning? The following are some suggestions.

    • name a number and have your child show the number quickly with his fingers 
    • write a number and have your child quickly build the number with materials from home
    • write a number and have your child name it
    • have your child count objects at home and organize them into groups
    • have your child draw the value of a number
    • have your child separate a number into tens and ones
    • use the 120 chart to have your child identify numbers, show 10 more, 10 less, 1 more and 1 less

    I am attaching math resources below that are helpful when doing these activities at home. We use these mats at school as well.

    Tarea/Math Homework

    A los estudiantes se les asignará tareas de matemáticas cada semana sobre  lo que se ha enseñado en clase. Se enviará a casa un paquete de tareas de matemáticas que se deben guardar en un lugar seguro. Parte de la tarea también consistirá en problemas de palabras. Los estudiantes necesitarán dibujar su comprensión de los problemas y escribir una oración numérica que coincida con ellos. Deben centrarse en organizar sus dibujos usando grupos de 5 y grupos de 10 circulados. 

     

    Students will be assigned math homework each week based on what has already been taught in class. A math homework packet will be sent home and should be kept in a safe place. Part of the homework will also consist of word problems. Students will need to draw their understanding of the problems and write a number sentence to match them. They should focus on organizing the drawings using groups of 5 and circling groups of 10.
