For the past five years, Rocky Point Middle School teacher Mr. John Mauceri has spearheaded a Veterans Day assembly to share the importance of those who have served our country and their sacrifices in making this a better world.
The ceremony grows each year with students and staff donning patriotic colors and performing patriotic songs, essays written and read aloud by students and special veterans and guests of honor of Rocky Point VFW Post 6249. Mr. Mauceri has dedicated the services to his father who was a veteran and made noteworthy efforts to include the Long Island State Veterans Home residents in the annual ceremonies.
For these efforts and others honoring veterans, Mr. Mauceri was honored with the Middle School Teacher of the Year honor. He was cited for his dedication and excellence in teaching by the Suffolk County VFW District 11. He was also presented with a certificate by the Brookhaven Town Board on behalf of the residents of the Town of Brookhaven.
“Mr. Mauceri’s leadership role in organizing this event is inspiring to our staff and students alike,” Principal Dawn Meyers said. “Annually, he builds on the successes of prior years and makes us all proud to be a part of the important event. He is well deserving of this honor.”
