Learning about Famous Inventors
Mrs. Jones' 2nd grade has been learning about Famous Inventors. Today, they learned about Milton Hershey and how he didn't give up on his dream of having a successful candy shop even though two of them failed to be successful. Students were very surprised to learn that Mr. Hershey only attend school to the end of his 4th grade year so he could help his family by working on the farm. Students also learned the importance of not giving up on your dream just because you weren't successful the first time! Mr. Hershey did not have successful candy shop until his third attempt! He went on to sell his third candy shop (he made caramels) for One Million dollars and used that money to start making chocolate! He created the Hershey Factory in Pennsylvania, which is now known as Hershey, Pennsylvania. Students were very shocked to learn that he left his fortune to the orphanage in the town to help take care of the children who didn't have a home. What a great way to be an example!
Of course, when you're learning about Milton Hershey you must have a Hershey Bar! Students enjoyed using their candy bars to make s'mores today! They agreed that Mr. Hershey Had one of the best inventions of all time, CHOCOLATE!!!
