About MUHSD Induction

Welcome to the Merced Union High School District (MUHSD) Induction Program, which supports teachers with California, out of state, and out of country preliminary teaching credentials through a structured induction experience in blended format. Commitment and participation in MUHSD’s Induction Program will empower teachers to grow their professional practices as they complete activities and requirements asynchronously online, attend in-person professional development opportunities, and engage in regular meetings with their assigned Induction Mentor.

The Induction Program is governed by Teacher Induction Program Preconditions and Program Standards established by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Teachers will be guided along the way by the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) as the foundational component of the program, resulting in the development of an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP). University bridging documents are utilized, when available, to help transition the pre-service teacher to the work of a first year teacher.

The program is designed to increase each teacher’s pedagogical knowledge and abilities resulting in student achievement as measured by the CSTP and advancement on the Continuum of Teaching Practices (a tool for self-reflection, goal setting, and inquiry into practice that provides common language about teaching and learning).

Upon verification of preliminary credential status, candidates are enrolled in the MUHSD Induction Program and work to demonstrate continued learning that builds on pre-service preparation that includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • reflecting about student learning and teaching practice

  • developing professional goals to improve teaching practice

  • guiding, monitoring, and assessing progress toward professional goals and professionally-accepted benchmarks

Program staff regularly review program goals and assess program effectiveness based on informal data collected by district Induction Mentors and formal collection of survey data and seminar evaluations. Revisions to the Induction Program are made, as appropriate. Final program decisions rest with the Superintendent (Unit Head). Upon successful completion of the Induction Program, the participating teacher is recommended for a professional clear credential.
