How Do We Cultivate Wellness: 

• Access to healthy food throughout the school day, as part of the Nutrition Department.

  • Students have access to healthy foods throughout the school day ‒ both through reimbursable school meals and other foods available throughout the school campus in accordance with Federal and state nutrition standards

• Opportunity to be physically active.

  • Students have opportunities to be physically active before, during and after school

• Encouragement and support to practice healthy behaviors.

  • School staff are encouraged and supported to practice healthy nutrition and physical activity behaviors in and out of school

• Community and parent involvement to foster healthy habits at school, home and in the community.

  • Community is engaged in supporting the work of the district in creating continuity between school and other settings for students and staff to practice lifelong healthy habits

• Oversight and assessment of wellness goals.

  • The district establishes and maintains an infrastructure for management, oversight, implementation, communication about and monitoring of the policy and its established goals and objectives.

Wellness Policy in Action (What we have Done):

Quality parent/guardian engagement through the LCAP process to increase feedback and recommendations that have enhanced the healthful and culturally appropriate menu items sold in the nutrition department. All students receive free meals, food options and participation has grown.  

Increased trainings for school teachers and staff to encourage sales and distribution of health foods sold during school hours.

Continued Plans (Based on Policy Assessment):

Increase SMART Snacking in Schools:  Continue training for teachers and staff about healthy food sales and promotion and implement strict adherence.

• All foods and beverages served and sold during the school day MUST meet regulations set by the National School Lunch Program.  This includes items provided by teachers, clubs, and other site organizations.
