Fairport High School’s own Elizabeth Burns was honored by the American Chemical Society earlier this month and named the Rochester Section High School Chemistry Teacher of the Year!

From the ACS website: “[T]he purpose of this award is to recognize local chemistry teachers for dedication to their students, their colleagues and professional development in their field.”

Burns has taught chemistry through multiple courses in Fairport for over 20 years. She is also an adjunct professor at Syracuse University and began teaching chemistry at Nazareth College in 2020. In her position as a member of the National American Chemical Society, Burns chaired the local High School Awards night for 10 years, recognizing over 1000 students from six counties for their achievement in chemistry each year.

“I am honored to be recognized. I love teaching chemistry and my students inspire me every day,” says Burns.
