Dear Fairport Families,
Today, just a few short miles down the Thruway, families in the City of Buffalo are waking up to the first morning after an incomprehensible tragedy. At least 10 people were gunned down yesterday afternoon inside a grocery store there in what authorities are calling a racially-motivated, targeted hate crime. More information about the victims will come to light, and as it does, we know that all of your thoughts and mine are with their families and their loved ones.
There are no words or actions that can heal these wounds. We offer our deepest sympathies, and further resolve ourselves to build a world without hate. We resolve to treat each other with kindness and empathy and care, and leave space for grief. We resolve to look after each other. It’s the Fairport way.
We extend our hearts to local families who may have been affected by this violence. We know that the aftermath of racial and targeted violence will affect Fairport families and students in different ways. As always, if your child needs support, please reach out to their teachers or building administrators.
Yours sincerely,
Brett Provenzano
Superintendent of Schools
