The Fairport Central School District is pleased to announce John Kidd as the District’s new Director of Transportation, who was Board of Education approved for his new position at the October Board of Education business meeting. He was most recently Head Bus Driver for the department and will now replace Dr. Peter Lawrence who will retire in January 2022.

Mr. Kidd has been a dedicated member of the Fairport Transportation Department since 1995. Before his position as Head Bus Driver, he served as a driver trainer, safety coordinator and bus driver. Prior to working for Fairport, he managed and owned his own business.

According to Superintendent of Schools Brett Provenzano, Mr. Kidd emerged as the District’s top candidate for the position after participating in a thorough interview process that included multiple rounds and a variety of stakeholders, including a committee interview and focus groups.

“Mr. Kidd is very passionate about school transportation,” said Provenzano. “He is committed to providing a safe and highly effective school transportation program for all of our students. Mr. Kidd is knowledgeable, reliable, responsive, and detail oriented. He puts a high value on communication and building positive rapport with all stakeholders – this became very clear throughout the interview process among stakeholders.”

As a resident of Fairport for 26 years with his wife, Laura, and two adult children, Mr. Kidd said he is looking forward to continuing to provide the safest and most efficient transportation, and doing so “with smiles on our faces.” He said he looks to highlight his entire transportation family, because “we have a great group of drivers and staff!”

As he transitions to his new role, Mr. Kidd said his focus is on the students.

“I would like to make school transportation a positive experience for everyone,” he said. “Long term, I would like to continue to look for safety improvements and ways to improve efficiencies for our music programs, clubs and regular morning and afternoon routes as well.”

Mr. Kidd is expected to begin transitioning into his new role on November 1. Join the Fairport Central School District in congratulating John Kidd!
