Kelly Kingsley’s third-graders at Northside School are spreading kindness one day at a time during the month of December as part of the greater ‘Be a Light’ Kindness Challenge that has circulated throughout the greater community this season.
Some of the acts of kindness by Mrs. Kingsley’s class included making cards for administrators and sending holiday wishes to a local nursing home. Students were ‘filling other people’s buckets’ and in return they filled theirs, said Mrs. Kingsley.
“Since starting this challenge, my students have seen that they are capable of making a difference. They have discovered that little acts of kindness can go a long way. What might seem like a small act for them can make a big impact on someone else,” she added.
Today, Dec. 18, her class will be donating all the items they’ve contributed to their class food drive to support the Perinton Food Shelf as a culminating act of kindness. During school today, they also each created cards to show their appreciation for their local community.
“I encourage others to be more aware of the simple acts of kindness you can do in your everyday life,” said Mrs. Kingsley. “I told my students that the ‘Be a Light Challenge’ was our focus for the month but it needs to go beyond and be a part of their everyday life. WBEE inspired us and we hope we can inspire others too!”
