Fairport High School Chemistry Teacher Donna Himmelberg has been named 2020 High School Chemistry Teacher of the Year by The Rochester Section of the American Chemical Society! Himmelberg was recognized during a virtual event on November 10, 2020.

Himmelberg has taught Regents and Honors Chemistry at Fairport High School for 13 years, and previously taught biology and chemistry at other schools. She has also helped develop and teach our unique NASA Space Research course, incorporating chemistry into a multi-disciplinary class that focuses on the scientific process and working with NASA engineers.

As noted in her biography, “Donna Himmelberg has high expectations for her students and pushes them to truly understand chemistry and act like a scientist. She is a champion for inquiry and modeling in the science classroom and completely modified her Regents Chemistry courses last year to utilize modeling. Donna continually seeks professional development and opportunities to share her knowledge with colleagues.”
