The following message is from the Fairport CSD Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics, Mr. Fritz Kilian, to all Fairport families regarding the status of the Fall Sports season, which will begin on September 28.

Dear Fairport Families:

We have received direction from the Department of Health and the Governor’s Office that we may begin moderate and low risk sports this fall. There is a tremendous amount of guidance surrounding the safety measures that we must undertake, to have kids practice and play in as safe an environment as possible, including:

New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) has moved the sports season for Football, Boys and Girls Volleyball and Fall Cheerleading to March 1, 2021. We will not offer these four sports this fall.

NYSPHSAA has approved Gymnastics, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Girls Swimming, Girls Tennis, Boys and Girls Cross Country, Girls Golf and Field Hockey regular practices and competitions.

We, the Monroe County Public School Athletic Conference (MCPSAC) and the Fairport Central School District, will offer the following sports and levels beginning on Monday, September 28.

Fairport Fall Sports Offerings

Girls Soccer – Varsity, JV Boys Soccer – Varsity, JV Girls Swimming Varsity, JV Gymnastics Varsity
Cross Country B&G – Varsity, JV Girls Tennis – Varsity, JV Field Hockey – Varsity, JV Girls Golf

Varsity

We will determine at a later date, if we are able to offer a modified sport opportunity in a safe and manageable manner.

  • Registration for the Varsity and JV Fall sports above will open today, Friday, September 11. Detailed instructions for Family ID can be found on the Fairport CSD Athletic Webpage at: https://www.fairport.org/departments/athletics/.
  • If your son or daughter had a physical for school for the 2018-19 or 2019-20 school year, you do NOT need to have a physical for fall 2020 athletics.
  • First day of practice for the Varsity and JV sports above is Monday, September 28.
  • Students can participate in athletics whether they are hybrid or distance learners.
  • Families are responsible to transport athletes who are not participating in in-person classes to campus for practices or to campus to ride the bus to games. Practice times for all sports and levels are TBD.
  • Practices and games are not open to the general public.
  • Per NYS Department of Health Guidance, players, coaches, officials, event personnel and only two spectators per player are allowed for contests. The Fairport CSD, in conjunction with Monroe County Public High School Athletic Conference and Section V Athletics will develop procedures to assure that only two spectators per player are in attendance.  These procedures will be communicated through our athletic department and coaches. The two spectators per player will be strictly enforced.
  • Sport-specific rules and guidelines will be shared with those who register for the sport. We encourage all families to register if they are even considering participating.

Sincerely,

Fritz Kilian
Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics
