The Fairport Central School District is pleased to announce that Ashley Edwards, a Fairport graduate and teacher at Fairport High School, has joined the administrative team at the high school as acting assistant principal. She replaces Dominic Monacelli who is now the acting principal for Minerva DeLand School.
Mrs. Edwards has 13 years of teaching experience, including the last six years at Fairport High School teaching English as a New Language Global History and Geography, Global History and Geography, as well serving as a Response to Intervention Humanities Teacher for students in need of additional support. Previously, Edwards taught at Victor Senior High School. Edwards completed her district-level internship at Johanna Perrin Middle School and building level internship at Fairport High School.
Mrs. Edwards said it was her ‘privilege’ to serve on many committees and be a part of several initiatives, such as leading a Professional Learning Community around student-centered learning for a large group of teachers of various disciplines at the high school; serving on the Facilities Planning Committee of the District Advisory Council; reviewing the Code of Conduct as a member of the Academic Integrity Committee; helping to initiate and promote “Girls on Fire”; representing the members of the teachers’ union at FHS for two years; and most recently, was trained as an Adult Leader for Sources of Strength.
“Mrs. Edwards is engaging and dynamic, and we look forward to seeing her passion and joy spread throughout the high school community,” said Superintendent Brett Provenzano.
After graduating from Fairport High School in 2002, Mrs. Edwards attended Oklahoma City University as a double major in dance performance and history. After two years, she returned home to attend SUNY Geneseo where she earned her bachelor’s degree in History and then her master’s degree in teaching from SUNY Binghamton. Edwards earned her Advanced Certifications in School Building Leadership and School District Leadership from the University of Rochester.
“I am most looking forward to seeing our students again and hearing the normal hustle and bustle of our hallways!” Edwards said. “More specifically, I am excited to support our students and staff at FHS in this new capacity, while working together to overcome the unique challenges that this school year will bring and finding new ways to connect and grow with one another.”
Mrs. Edwards resides in Penfield with her husband, Shawn, and their three sons, Landon, 9, Beckett, 6, and Greyson, 3, as well as their two K9 dogs named Valor (retired) and Ike (new puppy). Her family enjoys spending time together hanging out by the pool, playing baseball in the yard, enjoying movie and popcorn nights and playing in the snow.
