One longtime Fairport Central School District administrator has announced she will retire after the 2017-18 school year. Northside Elementary School Principal Carolyn Shea will retire after 42 years in education – 20 of those years in Fairport – on June 30.
She began her education career as a second grade teacher for various districts in Kansas, her home state. She was also an instructional facilitator/district level curriculum coordinator in Kansas before moving to Fairport in 1998 to become assistant principal of Northside, and then principal, in which she has served ever since.
In her time at Fairport, she said she has experience many highlights.
“I have loved every minute working with our students and our amazingly talented faculty and staff. I have hired almost all of the current Northside teaching staff – all but approximately five of them!” she said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all of our students, their families and our Northside PTA.”
Looking ahead, Shea said she plans to devote her attention to her family, such as visiting and volunteering in her granddaughter’s kindergarten classroom.
“It has been my honor and privilege to have worked in this dynamic district,” said Shea.
