    K last year 1st unique

My name is Mrs. Hinson & this is my 2nd year at R Brown.  I am thrilled to be a member of the Bobcat family.  I am originally from Martinsville, Virginia and got my BS & MS in English from Radford University.  I have taught students at all levels.  I started my teaching career in 10th & 11th grade English at Martinsville High school in Virginia.  I moved to Charlotte in 2012 and began working at Ridge Road Middle in CMS, where I taught 7th & 8th grade ELA.  I taught 5th grade at R Brown last year and am excited to be joining the 1st grade team.  I can't wait to get to know each of my students and dive into the fun curriculum for this year.  My husband Dana and I live in Kannapolis with our almost 3 yr old daughter, Ryleigh.  She keeps us busy, but we love it.  We love to spend time outside, exploring all of the fun things that the area has to offer.  I love to read and take great pride in getting my students interested in and excited about reading!  Reading is fundamental and books have the unique ability to transport the reader to various places.  I am excited to see where the stories that we will read this year will take us.

I encourage my students to try new things, to ask for help if they are confused, and to never give up or say that they "can't" do something.

Our classroom theme for this year is based around the quote, "We are like a box of crayons.  Each one of us is unique, and when we get together our class is complete."  I look forward to discovering what makes each of my bobcats unique.  I believe that given the right tools, time and support all students can learn and be successful.

I know that this is going to be a great year, filled with fun and learning!

Listed below are some great resources you can you to help your Bobcat grow this year:

    •     Clever (student's login with their QR code & can access iReady and other resources).
    • EPIC! (can be accessed through Clever & or by going to www.getepic.com).  My class code is ube9826.  This is a great resource for them to have a variety of books read to them & for them to read as well.  This can be accessed from anywhere & would be great for car trips, as the holidays are approaching.
