Mrs. Smith

Hello and welcome to Mrs. Smith's classroom - I am SO excited to have you! This is my fourth year at R. Brown and I couldn't picture a better community to be apart of - Go Bobcats! This year is a special year for me because my daughter Paisley (5) will be joining the Bobcat family as a kindergartner. My husband and I have been married 9 years and we not only have our daughter, Paisley, but we also have a son, Bo (3) who attends MFWC, two rescue pups, Lilly and Daisy, and one K9 named Ayk! I am currently attending Appalachian State University online to complete my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and I will graduate next December (2024). Somethings I enjoy are reading (realistic fiction, fantasy or sci-fi), going to Target, iced coffee, Cannon Baller baseball games with the family and the mountains.

My education philosophy is for my students to develop a growth mindset. A growth mindset is the belief that they are capable of doing anything they set their minds to, even if it may be more challenging for them than others. All students are capable of learning, growing and thriving in all subjects - we just have to work together to find the best possible strategy that works for each child.

My classroom management philosophy is a positive, encouraging, student-centered classroom. My students and I will work together to create a strong classroom community built on respect, trust and empowerment. I want my students to feel valued, loved, comfortable and safe when they enter my classroom. With that being said, I also hold my students to high standards. I want to push my students to be the best possible version of themselves - socially, emotionally, mentally and academically.

I am so excited about the 2023-2024 school year and I cannot wait to guide our sweet kindergarteners on their first journey through school!
