I teach in order to...
...inspire and motivate students to explore and learn another language, culture, and world view, as well as to reflect on and better understand their own.
I am so excited to be joining the Sage Creek community and especially to be teaching what I truly love- Spanish as a second language! I am an alumnus of Carlsbad High School (no Sage Creek in the 1980s!) and am certain that my experience as an AFS exchange student to Tucuman, Argentina, while in high school changed the course of my life. I still remember the exact moment when my second language (Spanish) became comprehensible to me- when it all "clicked" and my mind no longer needed to translate. This is what I want for my students and am excited to create authentic listening/speaking/reading/writing opportunities to help make it happen. Learning a second language and culture shaped who I am as a learner, a professional, and as a human being. Being bilingual is, in my mind, a life skill that all students should have the opportunity to acquire.
When not teaching, I can be found hiking/exploring local sites with my family, or putting on my other hat as a "Dance Mom." I also love to travel throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
I look forward to sharing my love for the Spanish language with my students and also to become a part of their high school journey.
