Mrs. Park
Hello, my name is Valerie Park and I have been teaching science for Carlsbad Unified since 2003. I am originally from New Jersey, and in the summer of 2003, my husband and I decided to take a very long road trip from NJ to CA to explore the country. We immediately fell in love with San Diego County, and moved here that very summer.
I went to Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, and graduated with a B.A. in Biology. I received my teaching credential shortly after and taught high school science (biology, chemistry, & physics) for five years prior to moving to CA. In 2007, I studied counseling at Chapman University, and received a Masters in School Counseling in 2009.
I will be teaching two courses in the Biomedical Sciences Program from Project Lead The Way (Human Body Systems and Biomedical Innovation). There are four courses in the PLTW Biomedical Science sequence. These courses allow students to investigate the roles of biomedical professionals as they study the concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health. Students engage in activities like investigating the death of a fictional person to learn content in the context of real-world cases. They examine the structures and interactions of human body systems and explore the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, all while working collaboratively to understand and design solutions to the most pressing health challenges of today and the future.
