MY FAMILY

Matt Haupert

WELCOME BOBCATS!

My name is Matt Haupert, and I'm so excited to be a part of the Sage Creek English team!

I am originally from La Crosse, WI, and earned my degrees in English and Theater from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. After graduation, I packed up everything I owned in my car, drove to California, and never looked back!

I earned my M.A. in Urban Education from Loyola Marymount University in 2015, and my teaching journey has taken me all over the state — from Los Angeles to Oakland to San Marcos to Carlsbad, which I now call home. My wife, Elizabeth, is also a teacher — ask your friends at San Marcos High if they had Ms. Haupert for World History! — and our first child, Elle, was born in March 2022. Outside of teaching, I'm a diehard sports fan (go Cubs, Packers, and Bucks), a novice rock climber, and I love to make music or do just about anything creative.

In the classroom, I'm really passionate about creating learning experiences that are meaningful and engaging. I want everything we do to have a clear, valuable purpose beyond the classroom, and I want to have fun doing it. English is an incredible subject because it's the place where you find your voice and figure out how to use it — and through creative projects, thought provoking conversations, collaboration, and more, I strive each day to help my students do just that.
