Career Planning

The Counseling Department's goal is to ensure students feel prepared and confident to enter the workplace. We developed a comprehensive 4-year career planning guide to assist students through the career exploration process. In Naviance, students can build a career exploration portfolio. 

Career Exploration Resources

Need help figuring out what career you want to pursue?  Follow these steps:

  1. Complete the "Career Cluster Finder" and "Career Interests Profiler" in Naviance 
  2. Learn more about the 15 Career Pathways in California
  3. Review the helpful sites below to help you research different careers and salary information:

California Career Zone: Another way to research your interests and explore careers. It connects students to information on more than 900 California occupational options and colleges. 

    **Check out the Career Surfer mobile app to research these options on the go!

CareerEd.Org: Explore the careers in San Diego county that are in high demand. From Advanced Manufacturing to Business to Information Technologies and many others. Many of these occupations only require certificate coursework or an Associates degree from community college.

Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC): Apprenticeship opportunities with paid on-the-job training during the day and classes in the evening. Opportunities in: Electrical, Electronic Systems Technician (EST), Sheet Metal, Plumbing, and Pipefitting.

BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook: Find career information on duties, education and training, pay, and outlook for hundreds of occupations.

MiraCosta College Technology Career Institute: Students can gain hands-on technical skills and earn certificates in as little as six months in a variety of high-demand industries. Review the flyer for more information.

San Diego Job Corps: Voluntary post-secondary education program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor (WASC accredited). Provides low-income youth with an opportunity to receive career and technical training. Review the flyer for more information.

San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP): The SDWP funds job training programs that empower job seekers to meet the current and future workforce needs of employers in San Diego County.

Job Search Websites

Most job search websites will allow you to search for jobs based on criteria you select such as location, salary, job function, etc. To maximize your search capabilities, you may want to consider creating an account, and uploading a resume, this way companies can search for you! Use the tools in Naviance for more help creating a resume. Military Resources

  •  ASVAB: Sage Creek High School is scheduled to host an ASVAB exam on Thursday, October 12th. For more information and to register complete the SCHS ASVAB form.
  • Join the Military: Learn how you can enter the U.S. military.
  • Today's Military: Discover the options available through the U.S. military.
  • ROTC Programs: Learn about various programs and ROTC scholarship programs for College.
  • Cadets in College: Top Majors for ROTC students and a great resource to learn more about ROTC programs
