Kindergarten News!

Dear Parents,

We have had another busy full week of school!  In Communication Arts, we began learning/reviewing the alphabet (letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, and Ee), read several stories, learned and acted out nursery rhymes, and talked about environmental print.  In Math, we explored teddy bear counters and pattern blocks; are learning about patterns (AB pattern), counting, and the days of the week during calendar time; and learned the correct way to write numbers 1-3.

Behavior:  We have been working on BEHAVIOR more than anything else, and the students are adjusting well and learning our daily routines.  The most difficult tasks at this point are remembering to raise their hands before talking, listening and following directions, interrupting while the teacher is talking, and resting quietly at rest time.  In addition, some students continue to visit/play during work time resulting in not finishing their work on time and having to complete it during recess.  I certainly do not want students to miss recess unless absolutely necessary—they are cooped up in the classroom enough the way it is! Behavior cards are getting moved more each day, so please discuss expected school behavior with your child.  Remember, we only get two warnings and then we lose recess.

Snack time is working out very well.  A big thank you goes to all the parents for remembering to send a snack with your child daily.  I know how busy everyone is, but the students are really enjoying their snack by the afternoon.

  • Please purchase a milk ticket for your child if you have not yet done so.  A 20-day ticket is $7.00. Students who receive free or reduced lunches will still need to purchase a milk ticket for snack time.  Always send money in a sealed envelope stating child’s name, our class (KI), date, and what the money is for (lunch, milk ticket, etc.).  This helps our secretary keep your child’s account balance accurate for lunches and milk as well as reduces the chance of students losing money in between home and school.

Check Backpack Daily at Home & Friday Folders Every Weekend:

  • Please remember to check your child’s backpack every evening for any homework that needs to be completed and returned to school.  Your child’s promptness on returning finished homework will be reflected on their grade card.

  • It is also important to check and empty their Friday folder every weekend—there are often important notes, letters, etc. for you to review as well as homework that needs to be completed.  To those of you who are already doing this, thank you SO MUCH!!! I sincerely appreciate all your support and dedication to your child’s education!

Reminders/Upcoming Dates:

  • Every morning students may come to the classroom upon arriving to school and drop off their backpacks.  Then they are to go to the gym/elementary steps area where they may get ready to go outside (weather permitting) from 7:55 - 8:05 a.m.

  • NO SCHOOL:  Monday, Sept. 3 for Labor Day, Friday, Sept. 7 for the fair, and Monday, Sept. 10 for teacher workshop/professional development

  • Early-out at 12:45 for the fair:  Tuesday, Sept. 4 – Thursday, Sept. 6.

    • Kindergarten will attend the fair on Thursday, Sept. 6.  We will ride a shuttle from school at about 9:00-9:15 to the fair and return to school at approximately 10:00-10:15 a.m.  If a student does not have good behavior, they will be staying at school with another classroom teacher and not participate with the rest of the class at the fair. Also, please discuss with your child how important it is to always stay with their class and listen to the adults/teachers while at the fair.  Parents are more than welcome to meet us at the fair by the 4-H building at shortly after 9 a.m. to help supervise students if you wish.  Please remember to make sure you have a current background check on file with the school if you plan to join us. Lastly, students will not need to bring any money since we will not be riding rides.

    • We will not be having snack time and maybe a very short or no rest time all week due to early dismissal.

    • Please be sure to make arrangements for your child for the early dismissals and always send a note if there is a change.

  • 1st quarter midterm:  Friday, Sept. 14; Kindergarten will only send home “homeroom objectives” since we do not have enough information about language arts or math at first midterm.

  • Character Ed. assembly:  Friday, Sept. 28 at 8:30 a.m. in the elementary gym

  • Homecoming:  Friday, Oct. 5

  • Please remind your kids that we are in Kindergarten now, and they need to give me any papers, notes, Friday folder, or lunch/milk money that may be in their backpack.  I remind the kids to look every morning, but if they don’t know a note is in there, they may not go look.

Things that need to come back on Monday:

  • Rest mat (washed and in zipped plastic bag)

  • Friday folder

  • Snack for snack time—every day

  •  Milk and/or lunch money (if needed)

***PLEASE NOTE:  There will NOT be a newsletter next week due to the early out days for the fair.

As always, please do not hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions, concerns, or comments (positive or negative).

Have a great weekend and a fun and safe fair week!!!!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sara Ingersoll
