Established in 1966, the Migrant Educational Program is designed to address the needs of students who have traveled with their families for agriculture or fishing-related work.
The program ensures that as migrant students transition from state to state for seasonal or temporary employment, they are not penalized for differences in the state’s curriculum.
The Texas MEP provides migrant students with the opportunity to reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma -- preparing them to become productive citizens, receive a quality education and pursue a career in their field of interest.
A special project of the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Migrant Interstate Program (TMIP) facilitates intra- and interstate coordination in order to help meet the educational needs of migrant children from Texas who migrate out of state.
For children who have moved within the past three years for agricultural or fishing related work, please contact the PISD Migrant Program at 713-740-0050 or 713-740-0210.
