Houston Texans and Academy Donate $7,500 in Sports Equipment to the Jackson Wildcats
Students throughout the gym at Jackson Intermediate roared with excitement as Houston Texans
players Jeff Driskel, Carson Green and Connor Strachan, and Texans Legend Travis Johnson
rolled in carts full of new sports equipment worth $2,500, along with a $5,000 gift card from
Academy Sports+ Outdoors.
The contributions were made possible after Wildcats Coach Chris Gonzales applied for a grant
from the Texans to provide sports equipment and uniforms. The Houston Texans were excited to
visit Jackson Intermediate and spread a little cheer.
"For all of us to be successful, somebody had to buy us our first football, our first basketball,
our first volleyball... to give back to these kids its special," said former Texans player and
Legend Travis Johnson.
After a series of motivational speeches by the Texans organization, the students and players
wrapped up the day on the basketball court with a game of knock-out.
"This is great for the students... for them to see that the Houston Texans know Jackson
Intermediate exists... and that they aren't just people on TV, they are real people who came out
here and had real conversations... it's a blessing," said Coach Gonzales.
