With a new school year comes new beginnings, and a chance for our students, families and staff to welcome new faces to our Fairport schools. Several of our buildings and programs will have new administrators and administrative teams this year, all ready to serve our learners! Some are long-time Fairport educators embarking on new adventures, and others are beginning their careers at FCSD. The District is proud to welcome these outstanding educators to their roles. I encourage our students and families to reach out to their new administrators and begin to build those connections that make our Fairport schools the caring communities that they are.
With gratitude,
Brett Provenzano
Superintendent of Schools
Congratulations to Sarah Klosner, who begins her tenure as Director of Elementary Special
Education at Fairport this fall. Klosner has been a part of the Fairport school community at Dudley Elementary School as a Special Education Classroom Teacher, Special Education Consultant Teacher, Lead Teacher and most recently as an Assistant Principal. Klosner’s dedication to her students in all of her roles has been a pillar in the District for eleven years. Her motivation to “cultivate a community of students, teachers, staff and parents who work to create caring and competent individuals,” will be a tremendous asset to Fairport’s special education program and to the families we serve. Klosner’s office and the Special Education Department are housed at 10 Baumer Place.
The Fairport administration is pleased to welcome Rebecca Short as the new Principal at Martha Brown (MB). Short has served as the Assistant Principal of Johanna Perrin Middle School for the past eight years. In this role, she has fully embraced the vision and mission of the Fairport CSD and adeptly supported students, staff and families with dedication and excellence.
“I look forward to developing strong relationships with all students and their families, as I hope to continue the legacy of collaboration that is ever-present at Martha Brown,” says Short. “I am excited to partner with the phenomenal MB staff to continue to build a culture of inclusivity, academic rigor, as well as social-emotional wellness.”
Also joining the Martha Brown family this year is George Barberi as Assistant Principal. Barberi comes to Martha Brown from the East Irondequoit Central School District, where he most recently served as a Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) for Equity, Climate and Culture and as an Administrative Intern. He has earned commendation for his leadership in District-level curriculum writing, and was a charter member of the District’s PBIS and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committees – all skills that will make him an invaluable resource for and addition to the team at MB.
Congratulations to Patricia McGrath, who joined the team at Minerva DeLand (MD) this summer as the ninth-grade school’s new Assistant Principal. McGrath comes to MD from Fairport High School where she most recently served as a special education teacher and the lead teacher for the Special Education Department. As a special education teacher, she has adeptly supported students, staff and families with high quality, developmentally appropriate programming. McGrath also has served as a summer school teacher and alternative education teacher. She is excited to share her passion for education with the MD school community.
The team at Johanna Perrin (JP) welcomes Kacie Ferrando in her new role as Assistant Principal. Ferrando has a variety of K-12 school experience as a school psychologist. She comes to JP from Webster Central School District where she most recently served as a school psychologist at Klem Road North and the lead teacher for the Mental Health Department. Ferrando believes in the importance of building meaningful relationships and the power of collaboration, and has a breadth of knowledge to complement and support our JP staff and families.
Congratulations to the newest Dudley Dragon, Caitlin Law! Law joins the Fairport team at the end of August as Assistant Principal at Dudley (DU). Law joins Fairport from the Rochester City School District, where she most recently served as Assistant Principal of the RCSD Commencement Summer School at St. John Fisher College. Her experiences in that administrative role included development of an equitable, supportive and nurturing learning environment to prepare students to be future-ready. Law has extensive elementary classroom experience as a music teacher for grades K-6, and a strong background in the District’s Autism and Growth and Education for Students with Multiple Disabilities (GEM) Program.
