Fairport High School’s winning streak continues! The school’s ‘Hourglass’ yearbook program has been awarded the Jostens 2022 National Yearbook Program of Excellence award.
DonnaMarie Roessel, a former teaching assistant at Fairport High School who officially retired last year, has been advising on the yearbook for 18 years. She and this year’s co-advisor, Tony Exton, were notified about the award earlier this spring. Roessel said the FHS yearbook has won the award every year that it has been given out.
“I thought that last year would have been my last one to do, but came out of retirement to help create one more before moving out of the area,” said Roessel.
“Although it has been a lot of work putting together a yearbook that has won the award consistently for years, it’s the looks on the student’s faces when they receive their yearbooks that makes it all worthwhile.”
The press release by Jostens states, “The National Yearbook Program of Excellence recognizes engaging yearbooks that reflect a broad representation of the student body while helping students develop 21st century skills.” Roessel says that representation and those skills are exemplified by Fairport’s yearbook program.
“We have put together a yearbook that represents our school and community and it is something that we have been very proud of…Hats off to our yearbook staff this year. They were a small but mighty group that got things done,” said Roessel.
Congratulations to the yearbook program on this prestigious honor!
