Say hello to Joshua, Eddie, Gunner, Murph, and Brody! No, they’re not new students at Fairport High School (FHS)…they’re therapy dogs bringing joy to the halls of FHS. These certified therapy dogs and their talented handlers are part of RocDog, a local non-profit that partners with organizations to provide therapy dog services.
Elizabeth Russell, Fairport’s Substance Abuse Prevention Social Worker and Secondary Mental Health Lead Teacher, reached out to RocDog to bring its services to FHS. The dogs visit the school on two Fridays each month. The four-legged visitors check in
with students during their lunch periods and travel the halls to the library – and anyone who is interested in interacting with the dogs is welcome to do so! Russell says that her team is working on setting up a system for pre-scheduled classroom visits, as well.
