Fairport Welcomes New Deputy Superintendent 9.10.21

The Fairport Central School District welcomes Dr. Tanya Wilson-Thevanesan, the District’s new Deputy Superintendent for School Improvement and Community Engagement, who was Board of Education approved at a Special Meeting on August 31. She will begin her new position in the District by October 1.

Dr. Wilson-Thevanesan comes to Fairport with 21 years of experience in the Rochester City School District where she has served in a variety of roles, including special education math teacher, special education administrator, and elementary assistant principal. Most recently, she has been principal of East’s Lower School where she has been a key agent for school improvement with a strong emphasis on student achievement. At East, she has been instrumental in the increased graduation rates (from 33% to 85% in six years) with a focus on equity and inclusivity for all students.

She said she is passionate about equity and access and anticipates growing in these areas with the Fairport CSD school community.

“As the Deputy Superintendent for School Improvement and Community Engagement, I look forward to engaging in Fairport’s strong tradition of Brotherhood and Sisterhood, building relationships and learning alongside the Fairport community,” said Dr. Wilson-Thevanesan. “Along with our staff, I look forward to focusing on the strengths of every Fairport child and meeting them where they are.”

Dr. Wilson-Thevanesan received her bachelor’s degree from Nazareth College in mathematics, a Master of Science in Education in Integrating Technology from Walden University, a Master of Science in Education in Educational Administration from St. John Fisher College, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from St. John Fisher College. She also serves as an adjunct professor at the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester where she teaches a graduate course on leadership in urban schools.

“Dr. Wilson-Thevanesan is eager to contribute to our school community and interact and develop meaningful relationships with our amazing students, talented staff and caring community,” said Superintendent of Schools Brett Provenzano.

Dr. Wilson-Thevanesan is a resident of the Town of Greece where she lives with her husband and three children.
