“As an educator, parent, and member of the Fairport community, I feel that my experiences will be an asset on the Board of Education. My employment journey started as a teacher in a local school district, which led to running an education company primarily supporting New American students in the city of Rochester. Later I had the opportunity to develop curriculum and train educators and Employment Support professionals across New York State. Currently I work for an organization providing advocacy, training, and support for state agencies, school districts, and people with disabilities on a national level. It would be a pleasure to use my experience with diverse educational systems to increase opportunities for all students and families within the District.”

Margaret Cardona

Family: Six adult children, all Fairport graduates, and 13 grandchildren.

Education: Doctoral coursework in Educational Administration from University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education, Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from The College at Brockport, Master of Science in Speech Pathology from Nazareth College, and Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology from Nazareth College.

Occupation: Permanency Specialist for Hillside Children’s Center.

“We are facing unique challenges in public education at this moment in history. I am running for a fourth term on the school board because of my commitment to quality education for each and every Fairport student. My six children attended Fairport schools K-12. Eleven of my grandchildren currently attend or have graduated from Fairport schools. I had the privilege of being a principal of Brooks Hill for 13 years until my retirement. I believe those multiple perspectives are valuable in continuing to work as a team member on the board to create the best affordable quality public education for all of our students.”

Joyce Kostyk

Family: Two adult sons, both Fairport High School graduates.

Education: Bachelor of Science from the University of Connecticut.

Occupation: Early Childhood Consultant for Children’s Institute.

“As a strong proponent of public education, it has been a privilege to serve six terms on the Fairport Board of Education. I am running for re-election to continue the work our Board has undertaken to move forward with our goals. When our schools reopen, we will face a unique situation, which requires extensive thought and planning. I am committed to quality education and these essential plans. I have been active in the County, State and National School Boards Associations. I attend conferences, webinars and workshops to remain current. I serve on several committees in our District and County, and consistently advocate for students and tax payers by engaging with state and federal legislators. I am committed to quality education and will continue to support our students, teachers, administrators, and all our staff.”
