Aaron Smith has spent over 20 years working in building and grounds at local school districts, and beginning in January 2020 he will now serve as Fairport’s new Director of Facilities, replacing Ross Ciulla who is retiring after working for more than 35 years in public education.
Before joining Fairport, Smith was the director of Facilities for the Honeoye Falls-Lima CSD, and previously director of Facilities for the Geneva City School District. Prior to working in public education, he worked as a landscape contractor.
His Bachelor of Business Administration in Financial Services and Bachelor of Technology in Landscape Contracting are from SUNY Cobleskill. He also holds an associate degree in Landscape Design and Ornamental Horticulture.
“Communities like Fairport are supportive and stand behind the schools,” said Smith. “With this support and a strong administration team it leads to great things.”
He adds that he is most excited about the recently voter-approved 2019 capital improvement project, Fairport Forward, because “it is an opportunity for the District to make large improvements to its facilities and offerings for the community.”
“Mr. Smith puts a high value on communication and building positive rapport with all stakeholders and we are excited to welcome him to our Fairport Family,” said Superintendent of Schools Brett Provenzano. “He understands the importance of short and long-term facilities planning to provide the best possible facilities for students, staff, and our community.”
Smith and his wife are raising two young children, ages 5 and 3 and live in Geneva.
