The Fairport Central School District will present a film screening on Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age Monday, Jan. 8 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Minerva DeLand School, located at 140 Hulburt Road in Fairport. The event is free and open to all community members, parents and students in grades 5-12.
Screenagers is about the impact of the digital age on children and how to help them minimize harmful effects and find balance. Participants who attend the film screening will learn how to work toward developing a balanced approach to using technology in today’s world. Parents will receive resources to help them set limits and keep their children safe online.
In Screenagers, Physician and Filmmaker Delaney Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, Screenagers reveals how tech time impacts children’s development and offers solutions on how adults can empower children to best navigate the digital world and find balance.
