My name is Crystal Brunson! I am so excited for the 2019-2020 Academic year and serving our students at CC Griffin and JN Fries middle schools and Weddington Hills and Wolf Meadow elementary schools as an Empower Counselor.

Professional Description

EMPOWER (Expanding Magnet Program Options and Widening Educational Reach) is a grant program designed to encourage more students to pursue magnet program options in our district. There are 12 EMPOWER schools. Empower counselors are assigned to work with students who might benefit from Tier 2 and Tier 3 services. I will provide individual, group, enrichment, and classroom counseling for STEM/IB students around socio-emotional skills. In addition, I will provide professional development around parent engagement. I will work in coordination with the grade level counselors and other support services staff (e.g., school psychologists, social workers, nurses, etc.) at our school to provide these services.

About Me

I received my BA. in Psychology and English from UNC Chapel Hill in 2011. Go Tar Heels! I received my MS EdS in School Counseling from UNC Greensboro in 2013. Upon graduation, I worked as an elementary school counselor in Davidson County during the 2013/2014 Academic Year. I completed my doctorate in Counseling and Counselor Education from UNCG in 2017. I have about four years of professional experience providing counseling services for children and adolescents. I look forward to working with your student!

I am from Winston-Salem, NC. I love salsa and bachata dancing, watching tennis, shopping, and eating good food. Since I love food so much, I also try to work out occasionally. I have a four month old son named Caden! I look forward to supporting you and your child.
