Crista Lantz
I am originally from New York, though North Carolina has been my home for over 30 years. I have been married to Jim since 1996 and we have three children. My daughter Catie will be a junior at Appalachian State University. My middle daughter, Maddie, will be in twelfth grade at Cox Mill High School. It is hard to believe we are getting ready to have another senior! Cameron, my youngest, will be in eighth grade at Harris Road Middle School.
I am very happy to be starting my seventh year at W.R. Odell Elementary School. Previously, I worked at R. Brown McAllister for seventeen years and I worked for five years with Hickory Public Schools. I am so happy to have the opportunity to teach science again this year. Although social studies will be integrated with literacy this year, we will address some social studies content in our classroom throughout the year. There are so many opportunities for hands-on learning in both subject areas and I am lucky to be able to collaborate with three wonderful teachers to develop lessons that tap into student interest as well as encourage inquiry. Science has been a favorite subject of mine since I started teaching twenty-eight years ago. The skills learned through the process of completing science experiments will also be helpful in life. Sometimes we predict incorrectly, sometimes we have to change our thinking, but every experience is a learning experience!
Once again, I am happy to be part of the Odell family and I am looking forward to a wonderful year, I hope you are too!
